Internal
Science Chat
The Science Chat is our internal seminar attended by all students and scientists currently involved in research projects at our department. The Science Chat take places on a weekly basis every Wednesday at 12:30 in our seminar room (5P43). It serves to discuss our research projects and also current topics in Evolutionary Biology. It is only open to members of the department (including technicians, undergraduates, PhD students, postdocs, and the Prof.) to permit a relaxed atmosphere and the presence of a competent group of people. With the help of these meetings, we aim to solve problems in our research work and also enjoy a stimulating exchange of ideas. For more information ask Nils.
Lunch Seminar
For our Lunch Seminar, we invite researchers from outside the department, who work on related topics. It usually takes place in our seminar room (5th level, room 5P34) on Thursdays at 13:00 st (for exceptions see below). They are in English, on rare occasions in German (see below). Guests are very welcome! People may bring their lunch and eat it quietly during the talk. To be included in the lunch seminar newsletter contact Dennis.
Journal Club
During the Journal Club, we discuss current papers in evolutionary biology, especially those related to our research, preferentially from one of the big journals (Nature, Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Proceedings of the Royal Society London, etc.; see links on our departmental webpage). It takes place on Thursdays at 15:00 in room 5P34. Everyone from the institute is invited to participate. The idea is that one person is in charge for a specific week. For this week, she/he will find a recent and fascinating paper which is then distributed by email to everyone else until Monday morning such that you can read it before the seminar. The person in charge will then introduce the paper and initiate the discussion. Presentation of the paper can be simple. You do not need to prepare a powerpoint presentation. However, it is important that the person in charge understands the paper and can answer possible questions. If you want to recieve an invitation contact Bea.
